My do it yourself project was a remodeling job for our 20 year old kitchen. My parents both agreed that our kitchen, being ancient and unchanged for the past 20 years needed a major facelift so they asked me if I could help out by coming up with architectural plans for the space. I wanted our kitchen to be functional and still have the same European feel so the first accent that I placed was a kitchen glass tile backsplash for the countertops and flooring. Now that it’s been a year after the remodeling job, the backsplash is my favorite element of the kitchen. It manages to converge artistry and the innovative construction materials of stone and steel making our kitchen look absolutely contemporary.

Our daughter and her family are located down in southern California, and we do not get to see them very often. We treasure them, think of them often and love our frequent phone calls to each other. One day, my husband and I were reading about a photographer in the Los Angeles area whose photography work brought out the essence of the subject, the simplicity of that essence. Which brought us to talking about the kids. And the possibility of having one of the Los Angeles photographers take a family portrait of our daughter and her family. It took a little doing, finding the right studio, getting the family together, but the end result was magical.
