Getting Close to the Smoky Mountain Nature
March 8th, 2009
Each time I arrive in the Smokies I feel a sense of being enclosed and enveloped in an environment that feels familiar. One could say it’s almost like being home. When the Cherokee arrive here they called this region the land of blue smoke. My ancestors were Cherokee and maybe that is why I feel a closeness with these mountains. Whatever it is I sense it is something that pulls me back time and again. I love to explore and search out fresh areas to photograph. For me, the Great Smoky Mountains are stunning and majestic in a unique and uncommon way. They have a particular feel about them that is challenging to describe. That is why I to expend much time shooting the Smoky Mountain nature. I come with great expectation that I the Smokies will reveal something new to me. My goal is to bring home a cherished photographic image. It is rare that I fail to accomplish this.
