Tattoo machine secrets

July 19th, 2009

I have all wondered how a tattoo machine works.  I was watching my girlfriend get a tattoo, and was talking to the tattoo artist.  I honestly thought that the ink went through the needle into the skin.  This is not the case though.  The needle punctures the skin, and then a carrier substance help the ink go into the hole the needle punched.  I also learned that the tattoo machine usually uses multiple needles at once.  There are many different configurations, and depending if the artist is outlining or shading they are in a different pattern.  I find this all very interesting.  Maybe I will get a tattoo.
