My back was sore so I tried a new office chair.

August 21st, 2009

Being “on the go”, I never gave much thought to our office furniture.Like everyone else, I made ample use of a desk, the adjoining desk chair, a file cabinet which doubled as a printer stand, and my company issue laptop computer. Not long after I started in this position however, I noticed a constant dull lower back pain. On various occaisions I’ve started a new exercise program or worked out at the local gym and paid for it with the consequential sore muscles, but this was different. One day I sat in my co-workers executive office chair. It was a swivel chair with castored wheels, adjustable height and reclining tension, and it was ergonomically designed with lower lumbar back support. When I sat in her executive office chair, my back seemed to automatically straighten as the lower lumbar pain slowly disappeared. I thought I was sitting on a cloud.Immediately I knew what I needed to do. I tracked down our office supply catalogue and ordered my own executive office chair, making sure also, that it was a swivel chair. I realized that my old wooden desk chair was not really a desk chair at all, but some holdover out of a medievel torcher chamber from the dark ages. I no longer have to struggle to turn around to access my printer because my new chair is also a swivel chair, giving my 360 degree access and improving my functionality, streamlining my flow of motion.
