Protect Patient Information By Using a Paper Shredding Service

As a pharmacist, I see hundreds of faxed prescriptions and refill requests each day. There is so much information on a medication prescription that could be easily used against someone, and we always dispose of these documents after we have noted them in the patients computerized chart. The pharmacy owner decided that in order to give our patients the best possible customer service, we should start using a paper shredding service to ensure that our patients are protected. Now, several times each day, one of our technicians takes all of the papers we no longer need and places them into locked bins, which are later picked up for shredding.
