Small Business Marketing for Dummies

April 9th, 2009

We all have days where we feel that we have absolutely no clue of where we are going or how to get there. In your business, marketing is key and you may suddenly feel that you need to brush up on small business marketing for dummies.

No one is dumb. Well, I could think of one or two…..but I digress. If you have the desire to read, research and learn, that is the first step. The second, most difficult step is to put into action what you have learned. Most important, is to start with the basics. Learn who your customers are, learn what they want, understand why you even exist and the value that you present to your customers. Then take off the rose colored glasses and see your business through your customers eyes. How can you improve, how can you meet their needs?

Look carefully at your competitors and what they are doing to be unique. Look into what you can do to be specialized and capture your own corner of the market. And never underestimate the value of a marketing plan, goals and strategies.

There is no small business marketing for dummies offered at a major university. And if there was it would be a disservice to those enrolled……there are no dummies, except those who will not try to learn.
