The Importance of the Compass

January 21st, 2012

The invention of the compass was probably the best thing to happen for Zheng He, who was the first person recorded to have used it first for navigating through his seven ocean voyages. No doubt, he would have done even better using compasses manufactured by Suunto Australia.

As a navigational aid, the compass is considered the most cost-effective and accurate, although nowadays, the GPS unit is touted to do a better job despite costing a little higher and requiring batteries. Without it, sailors and seamen would be having a much more difficult time like they did in the past, when their sense of direction depended on the weather and the position of the stars.
