ADHD Memory Problems

September 20th, 2009

One of the most popular diagnoses today for underperforming children is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).  Also known as Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), this condition can only be managed, not cured.

Children and adults with ADHD have trouble focusing on tasks.  As a result, learning new material and absorbing new information is very difficult for these individuals.

Physicians approach the treatment of ADD/ADHD through behavior modification and prescription medication.  Drugs such as Concerta and Adderall help affected individuals concentrate better, but not without risks.

Such medications can be habit-forming and have undesirable side effects.  Whenever possible, behavior modification should be emphasized in addition to the pharmacological approach.

Adequate sleep, proper nutrition, and other natural means can play significant part in the management of ADD/ADHD symptoms.  Practicing a skill or hobby, and playing brain games daily, can also help.
