June 17th, 2009
People who suffer from acne are left with physical and emotional scars. This skin condition which generally affects teenagers, but can appear in adults, causes self-consciousness and embarrassment for the sufferer. The acne scars, inside and out, are a lasting side effect of the condition. The scars are caused when tissue is damaged by the body’s white blood cells and inflammatory molecules fighting infection. They also work to repair the tissue damage; leaving behind the scars. What advice do dermatologists give for Healing Acne Scars? There are several types of treatments available today. One of the most popular is Fractional Laser Treatment. This non-abrasive method recontours the scar tissue, but the laser can leave redness of the skin for a few months. Microdermabrasion removes surface skin cells using aluminum oxide crystals passed through a vacuum tube, resulting in a smoother complexion. Depressed scars can be filled in with injections of collagen or fat. Other treatment options are chemical peels, skin surgery, and creams. Talk to your dermatologist before deciding which treatment is best for you.
