Different Types of Fuel and Installations for Radiant in Floor Heat

March 30th, 2009

When thinking about using a Radiant In Floor Heat system, there are two major factors to consider.  The type of fuel source that will be used to fire the boiler and the type of installation to be used.  When choosing which fuel to use, location and availability are the deciding factors.  If you live in an area that is “off-grid”, an electric boiler would not be feasible.  Biomass fuels such as wood or corn could be used along with a propane or natural gas back up.  Also think about using solar energy for at least part of your fuel source, as it would save money and be earth friendly.  When choosing the type of installation to use, you need to think about what best suits your project.  The choices are: Electric Heating, Infloorboard, Infloorboard II, Radiant Trak, Concrete, Gypcrete, and Warm Board.  Whatever fuel source and type of installation you choose, be certain you have the proper design for your project and it is installed correctly.
