When is a decorative bathroom vanity too fancy for a home?

A friend of mine bought a small ranch home in an up and coming neighborhood. They bought a very reasonably priced home so that they could put all of these high end ammenities in the house. I was wondering at what point it doesn’t make sense to put high end fixtures into a home, since you probably won’t recover your investment. In the bathroom they installed this really expensive decorative bathroom vanity. While it certainly is a nice piece of furniture, it is a very personalized item which I can’t see any potential home buyer being interested in keeping in their bathroom.
