Proper Etiquette in Engagement Gift Giving

January 8th, 2012

Did you know that when it comes to choosing engagement presents, you still need to follow a set of rules? The rules aren’t strict, and they can’t even be considered rules. Instead, it’s more of gift-giving etiquette. First off, you should consider how well you know the couple. Are they mere acquaintances; are they two of your closest friends, or are you close to only one half of the pair? If the latter is the case, it would probably be best to give your gift to your friend when the significant other isn’t around. Also, think of the engagement as a formal announcement of the couple’s plan to get married, but it isn’t the actual ceremony yet. Hence, it is proper etiquette, too, to give them a gift as two separate individuals and not as a married couple.
