After losing data when my computer crashed I began making regular backups.

October 20th, 2009

Dependence on technology has become of way life in the 21st century. Computers combined with high speed communications allows us to do more work, entertain ourselves as well as interacting with others, whether new acquaintances or long lost friends. Our personal computers often serve another purpose, to collect and store information about our lives and endeavors and make it available in future. Ranging from business presentations, to homework, to pictures of a family vacation when it comes to your data, you need a backup.

For many the loss of such data is more than inconvenient, its value is also incalculable. While a user could copy their files manually, using backup software is more efficient and reliable. These days computers often have bundled backup software that offer basic functionality and requires a modest amount of knowledge to use effectively. Third party backup software may be better suited to some users. By offering more features and flexibility they let the user determine how, when and where files will be backed up. They may also offer compression to minimize the space required to store the backup files. A third option is to use an on-line backup service which stores files in a remote location accessed via the Internet. online backup is particularly effective for use with mobile computers, requiring only an Internet connection. Another advantage of on-line backup is the ability to access stored files from any location.

Creating a daily backup should be part of everyones routine before data loss occurs.
