Dive And See The Chesapeake’s Oyster Reefs

March 12th, 2009

As a current resident of the Delmarva Peninsula (so named because it belongs to Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia), one of the scuba dive sites that particularly caught my eye was Oyster Reefs of Maryland and Virginia. I live maybe an hour from the Chesapeake Bay and know how greatly important saving the bay is, not excluding the oyster reefs. What was once a body of water plentiful with oysters, blue crabs, and other marine life is now in dire straits. Any scuba diver with environmentalist sympathies (and what scuba diver wouldn’t have them?) should come see the oyster reefs while they’re still here and maybe even become an advocate for their cause.
